There is one thing about a surprise, a pleasant one, that is. It is universally loved! The twins would vouch for it. The seven- year olds needed a good seven minutes of coaxing to get down from the car and enter an unfamiliar place. Once inside the cafe, their faces were worthy of Insta photos, with eyes popping out at being surrounded by balloons and familiar faces.

A surprise Children's Day celebration was planned for my students at Bread Box Cafe last week. It is a charming little place on Hindustan Park Road. The cheerful ambience of the cafe was further enhanced with the sight of balloons all over the place. As the children trooped in, the look of amazement and joy in their faces was a treat to watch. Soon, the place was reverberating with laughter and jollity, as the little ones started playing with balloons and making up games on the spot. There was so much of warmth and spontaneity all around. Where there is fun and frolic, can food be far behind? All-time favourites, yummy cheese balls, pizzas and shakes arrived to satiate hungry tummies. Our most gracious host, Mrs Roy Chowdhury, also prepared a special Children's Day truffle cake. In fact, her personal touch was evident everywhere. All the kids took part in the cake-cutting ceremony! The camaraderie was unforgettable. Two hours just flew by and how! After all, what can be more precious than the wonder of bright eyes and radiant toothless smiles?
